The Department of Classics and Ancient History at Exeter is one of the largest and most successful in the country, with 18 members of staff (16 of them in permanent positions) and nearly 300 students. The department takes an interdisciplinary perspective, and its members have close links to related fields including history, archaeology, philosophy, visual arts, and linguistics. Research and conference travel by staff and postgraduates is generously supported, and the department has been successful in securing competitive bursaries and scholarships for post-graduate study, including AHRC, ORS and Exeter Research scholarships.
